Assignment for Friday, 9/7

--Read the introduction to the Tao Te Ching
--Read chapters 1-20: Pick one chapter or a part of a chapter to write a short essay on (150+ words) -- don't forget that there are good notes on each chapter in the back of the book (read those, too)
--Read your assigned chapters and pick out the most interesting one to share with your classmates. Write 150+ words on that chapter, too.

For Friday, 8/31

--Read Confucius Lives Next Door pp. 91-117. Quiz.
--I'll collect your notebooks.
Work on your wiki project.
Start bringing Confucius Lives Next Door and also the Analects of Confucius to class every day.

Wednesday class

We'll meet in Weeks 105 to get organized with our computer stuff and with our groups.

Monday night thoughts....

Thanks for a good first day.  When you start adding pages to the class wiki or class blog, 1. use your initials and not your names, 2. only post pictures that are not copyrighted -- we'll talk about this in class, 3. split up your topic country in your groups -- for instance, one person might do history, one religion, one history up to 1900, one history after 1900, one art--whatever interests you as you go.

Andrew, Danny, Alan, and Joseph took Singapore, and that's the least meaty topic (it will be hard for 4 people to split up one city!).  I would highly suggest they change to Korea or Vietnam or Indonesia.  Other groups also have time to change if they wish.  Korea and Vietnam and Indonesia are the three best and most important topics.   

Special extra credit deal. +2 points on the quiz this Friday for the first three students who post questions for CLND on the blog.

Confucius Lives Next Door

Write one good question for Friday's quiz based on chapter 1 of CLND. Your question MUST be different from all the questions posted before yours. Questions that require paragraph answers are the best (not single-word answers). At least some of the quiz on Friday will come from your questions. Don't forget that you also have the map quiz.
